How To Prolong The Effects Of Injectable Treatments During COVID-19

looking in mirror

The cosmetics/aesthetics industry is one of the many industries profoundly affected by COVID-19.  Although the State Governments are lifting restrictions here in Australia, to cater to aesthetics needs. If regular cosmetic procedures were part of your routine before COVID-19 happened, you might be asking, ‘Will my skin change without treatment? Are there ways to optimise the effects of injectable treatments, or even prolong it?’

There are no clinically proven ways to extend the effects of injectable procedures such as anti-wrinkle injections or fillers, but they won’t wear off immediately and you can optimise it. Several factors contribute to changes in your skin regardless of whether there’s work done or not. Injectable products, for example, have different consistencies and lifespans. Usually, the effects may last longer than what’s officially indicated.

How To Optimise The Effects Of Injectable Treatments

Start A Skin Care Regimen

If you don’t already have one, now is the time to start and maintain a healthy skincare routine. Find a mild facial cleanser and toner that work with your skin. Add a good moisturiser or serum in your regimen.  Returning fine lines after anti-wrinkle injections is usually a sign of dehydration. Don’t forget to exfoliate your lips daily using a dry toothbrush. Make it even more plump and smoother by applying lip balm throughout the day.

Nutrition Is Key

Your skin glows from within. Good nutrition plays a huge role in keeping your skin more youthful-looking. Load up on dark green vegetables, fruits and healthy fats (e.g. nuts, fish oils, olive oil). Avoid sugary drinks and stick with good old water to stay hydrated.

Zinc the Anti-Wrinkle-Booster

Various studies show that Zinc can boost the effect of anti-wrinkle injections by up to thirty per cent. Injectables react to the levels of Zinc in your body. Therefore taking Zinc supplements can help achieve better results

Minimise Sun Exposure

Whether you’ve had injectable treatments done or not, it’s best to avoid too much sun exposure. The UV light can hasten the degradation of collagen and elastin, causing wrinkles. As these lines do not involve facial muscles, anti-wrinkle injections tend to be an ineffective treatment. If you have to go out, apply sunscreen with SPF50 even on cloudy days.

Quit Smoking

Cigarette smoking is damaging to your skin. It can cause a breakdown of collagen and elastin and depletion of Vitamin C that helps in repairing skin damage. It can also cause skin discolouration and the appearance of wrinkles and sagging skin.

Stay In Touch With Your Medical Professional

Consider reaching out to your medical professional for questions about your procedures. They can provide you with options that will work best for you. Check if they offer virtual consultations so you can create a plan on when you can resume your regular injectable treatments.
